jambit at the Hackathon 2022 of Arena2036
The cooperative research campus for mobility and production of the future, Arena2036, invited again to join the Hackathon from July 6 to 8, 2022. For co-creative work on interdisciplinary projects, jambit couldn't be missing, of course. On the state-of-the-art research campus of the University of Stuttgart, Arena2036 offered us a special working environment. Without walls, all companies met in a large, bright hall for open collaboration. The optimal environment to promote the exchange of ideas.
jambitee Andreas Lemke from our Stuttgart office was there together with Mercedes-Benz, our partner in the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Control project (MBAC). For us, this was a great opportunity to show ourselves as innovative thinkers in a university environment and to meet creative students. To do so, we had to find a suitable "challenge" for the hackathon. The choice quickly fell on test automation with hardware-in-the-loop.
From our point of view, this is a field with real optimization potential. Manual testing on real vehicles is very time-consuming and therefore can't always be carried out in the desired depth. Our challenge was to simulate the behavior of the heating, freezer and water tanks of the camper van on a test bench and to write test scripts. These were then used to check whether the MBAC app controlled these devices correctly. We even had the Mercedes-Benz "MarcoPolo" camper van with us for illustration purposes.
The participating companies came up with a whole range of challenges for the hackathon. The six teams of students were in the lucky position to pick the most interesting tasks. We're particularly proud that we could win over one of the top teams with our exciting challenge.
With Moses, Christopher and Nistha Bhawsinka we had some real hackathon professionals on our side, as both had already won a hackathon at the Institute of Computer Science. A limited time of 48 hours and unknown tasks and systems – no problem for the two of them. Clever and super dedicated, they could uncover a deviation of the MBAC system from the specification and found a solution that won't be continued in the MBAC project.
We would like to thank Moses and Nistha for their great work and Mercedes-Benz for the opportunity to present our company in the hackathon. Hope to see you next time!
