CoffeeTalks III / 2016

In April, it’s time again for the second round of the jambit CoffeeTalks 2016! All jambitees and interested jambitees-to-be are welcome to join the 60-minutes presentations by our experts about current IT issues and trends. Between and after the presentations, jambit invites everyone for discussions and networking over a good cup of jambit-coffee.

1:00 - 1:45 p.m.: Decisions are made by gut feeling
Dipl.-Psych. Franz Haßlberger / Head of Media & More

„Leave your feelings aside when making important decisions.“ This frequently heard advice reflects our excessive overestimation of rationality. Those who rely on the gut feeling as guiding principle are often smiled at.

In his talk, the speaker examines the relevance of emotions and intuition as well as their inseparable connection to cognitive procedures in decision-making processes. Through the understanding of basic processes and psychological mechanisms in this context, own and others’ decisions can be better understood and questioned.

2:15 - 3:00 p.m.: Rollout of Cloud environments on AWS with the help of Terraform
Martin Dahse / System Administrator / Platforms & Operations

Since the emergence of "Infrastructure as a Service" through Amazon Webservices, OpenStack and Co., there exist interfaces for the orchestration of network architectures that allow to create and maintain virtual machines or even virtual data centers. "Infastructure as Code" is a representation of such network structures in the form of source code.

The talk shows how the representation of a platform as source code can look like with Terraform.

3:30 - 4:15 p.m.: Blockchain from a Dummy
Dipl.-Inf. (FH) Marco Spörl / Senior Software Architect / Automotive Bavaria

What, in fact, is this "blockchain"? Is it not simply a slow, distributed data bank? And why should it be publicly available? These are only a few questions and prejudices relating to crypotcurrencies, blockchains and shared ledger.

The talk provides a (nearly) non-technical introduction in one of the currently most disruptive technologies and provides an overview of its benefit and possible application scenarios – even beyond payment systems.
